Tony Romo at Wrigley

May 12, 2008 by jim

I was kind of a fan of Romo but seeing his rendition of the seventh inning stretch has changed my mind. He's got this cockiness which I'm sure is great when being the qb but just fraking annoying overall. Adding on he's a cowboy and he's singing?

He may be the real deal this year.

Amazing Cub plays

April 29, 2008 by jim

So I wanted to start a post on super awesome/amazing clips of cub players. This is an obvious and recent one but here goes.

Re: Cubs biggest weakness?

April 24, 2008 by jim

I think they'll keep Pie the rest of the year. At some point they have to give him a real shot. He kills the ball in AAA ball no need to work on things there. I agree with Dempster and not considering him one of the solid starters but he has 3 wins to start the season so he hasn't been hurting us yet.

Re: 11-6 and tied for 2nd.

April 23, 2008 by jim

Totally agree with St. Louis. Their current starting rotation looks horrible but they keep winning. Both years the Cubs won the division in the decade of 2000, the Cards were in the playoff picture up till the last month and even then they weren't that great of a team. Milwaukee is too reliant on Ben Sheets and it's been shown he can't last a season healthy.

Cubs first Reds Series of 2008

April 17, 2008 by jim

I'm definitely liking the outcome of the first two games of this series. This much hyped Dusty Baker series. Our pitching has been great. Dempster and Zambrano are in the 2 win club now and our offense continues to hit the long ball. I thought it was a great stat to see Derrek Lee has already totaled last halfs home run total. This was a cool bit of information from Jayson Start who got it from Bill James. "According to Bill James Online, Fukudome has swung at only 11 pitches all season that were out of the strike zone. " Outside of some of the starting pitching, this team is looking good. Now if St. Louis can stop winning.

Re: Having hard time keeping a lead

April 8, 2008 by jim

Not only that but it's also the Pirates. For as long as I can remember even with the Pirates sucking for so long the Cubs still can't beat them on a consistent basis. Same goes for the Reds, we have so much trouble with these teams.

Lets play two!

April 2, 2008 by jim

Chicagosports had an article about the lack of apostrophe in the new Ernie Banks Statue. Here are some pics from flickr.

Is Lets play two a typo? Can you say lets with out an apostrophe?

Re: Woods is named closer!

March 24, 2008 by jim

It's unfortunate Wood has had so many injuries cause he's a great guy. It's funny cause he was as injured as Prior but fans were so much more accepting of Wood than Prior. I hope he can stay healthy the whole season cause he'd help out the team big time.

Testicular Torsion

March 11, 2008 by jim

Felix Pie is having surgery on his testicles today. I feel bad for the guy, it's testicle problems and it's all public. They couldn't have kept this info on the down low. Turns out to be an emergency as far as keeping the testicle if not detected fast. Here's more information if anyone is interested.

Also if anyone finds any funny blog articles I'm all up for it :)

Hall of Fame Candidates

January 3, 2008 by jim

So with it being the new year I was thinking about 2008 hopefuls for the hall of fame. My top candidate is of course the guy who I'm displaying as my profile icon, the one and only hawk, Andre Dawson. An MVP, Rookie of the Year and he hit 49 home runs in a time when speed was used more than the long ball. Let's hope this is his year. Any thoughts?

Mark Cuban at the Bulls game

December 4, 2007 by jim

What are your thoughts on Cuban at the Bulls game against Dallas. This guy really wants to buy the Cubs to what I say, why not. I'm baffled that the MLB wouldn't want a guy who would make the Cubs a team in the spotlight. It really is a win win situation. If the Cubs become a perrenial contender, tv viewers will go up, ad revenues will go up too bringing in more revenue to the mlb and back to the pockets of all owners. So I think. Maybe the revenue sharing theory is wrong but everything else I feel is.

Craig Monroe

November 15, 2007 by jim

The trades keep on coming. The Cubs traded Craig Monroe today for a player to be named later. They really are clearing up the outfield spot. With the loss of now Floyd, Monroe, and Jones that frees up 15 million of 2008 salary. Impressive. Now let's get Johan Santana!

Re: Cubs trade Jones.

November 15, 2007 by jim

I also agree it won't be that big of a loss. He did have a sweet swing and bat flip.

With Bonds indicted we could get him on the cheap :)

Re: Derrek Lee Gold Glove Winner

November 7, 2007 by jim

Don't forget about the "Hawk" Andre Dawson, Mark Grace, and Ron Santo.

Re: Derrek Lee Gold Glove Winner

November 7, 2007 by jim

Did Brian Mcrae win a gold glove?

Re: Would the Cubs want Schilling?

November 1, 2007 by jim

Well if he would sign for one year I wouldn't care to pay him that much. It's amazing that he has 3 world series rings and was a pivotal part of all them. Actually he may have some with the Bluejays way back in the day.

Curt Schilling as a Cub?

October 31, 2007 by jim

So Schilling has put the Cubs on his list of teams he'd be interested in playing for. Do we pursue this development. Would he be a good fit or just annoying and an old fart?

Cubs Dream Team

October 29, 2007 by jim

There have been some excellent players that have gone through this Cubs team over the year. What's yours? I know for sure a one Shawon Dunston would have to be at shortstop.

Re: Wrigley Rennovation

November 19, 2007 by jim

So they finished the sod renovations ahead of time. 2 weeks ahead of time if I read right.

Re: Alex Rodriguez Signing with the Cubs

November 21, 2007 by jim

Yup. The cool thing is he consulted Warren Buffet about negotiating with the Yankees. Buffet recommended negotiating one on one without his agent. Looks like it turned out well.

Re: Shawon Dunston's memorable moments

October 19, 2007 by jim

This isn't a moment really but I always enjoyed how Grace would make fun of Dunston's throws from shortstop.

Poll: What is the Cubs top priority next year?

October 12, 2007 by jim

It should be a busy off-season.  What should be our top priority.

Re: Poll: What is the Cubs top priority next year?

October 12, 2007 by jim

I know it'll be tough to get Johan Santana but I'd give away a lot for this guy. I wonder if we offered Prior and a couple stud prospects if they'd bite.

Re: Jacque-O-Meter

October 17, 2007 by jim

With the 2007 season being over, Jones ended up with a .285 batting average and a .334 on base percentage, almost identical to last years numbers.

Re: Zambrano dominance.

July 30, 2007 by jim

Arm slot seems to have some magic to it.  Like once you find the spot in your arm you're lights out.  It always seems like Zambrano mentions his arm slat mid way through the season.
