Topic: Hall of Fame Candidates

I'm a big fan of Dawson, too. His detractors say he was just very good and that his lifetime totals should be higher given the number of years he played (21). I guess they may have a point. Still, it's hard to argue with 400+ homeruns, 1500+ RBI and almost 2800 hits. I'm surprised, as are many others, that his stats haven't been viewed more highly in light of the steroid era.

I totally agree with the steroid comment. You'd think the hall of fame votes would only increase with all this steroids controversy.

I found a good article about Andre Dawson and his bad-ass ness. This guy would be a great dude to share a drink with.

Dood... Tim Raines just looks jacked. Stocky but super jacked. It must have been his coke vial in his back pocket that also helped him look so cool. ;)

Its amazing how awesome these early 80's Expo teams were, yet they couldn't get over the hump. Just like the '94 team.

I'm shedding a tear for the Expos as we speak. ;(

You can also asy the number of years played speaks to his longevity and his worth as a player. I'm happy his % went up this year to 63.x%. Lets just hope it keeps on growing, especially with all the steroid scandals going on.

I wonder how hard it would be to track him down to grab a drink with nowadays. People probably don't bug him as much anymore.

Not to mention folks fail to remember that he played his games in the cavernous cookie cutter ballparks of the day. He didn't have the luxury of hitting in these tiny bandshells that they have now. That and the turf at Olympic Stadium probably took a few years off his career. His knees were toast late in his career and Dawson still gutted out a few more quality seasons.
