I was thinking, when's the last time the Cubs produced a quality positional player?  When I mean quality I'd go with close to All-Star status and played in the league for more than 5 years.  The last one I can think of is Mark Grace, am I wrong?

It has to be more recent.  However I'm drawing a blank.  We've had Cubs come through and do great and establish themselves as Cubs (aka Sammy) but they didn't come through our system.  I also can't recall any that have come up through the Cubs and left onto greater things.  Soooo weird.  If this is the case this is like the Yankee's system in the mid 80's which was abysmal.

The Giant bloggers don't like their farm system when it comes to position players.  We've had players have a couple good years, or a good year.  Patterson, Orie, Brown, Walton.  I'm not sure if Jose Hernandez was part of the Cubs minor leagues but that could be one.  He was an allstar for the Brewers.  Wow, he was an all-star.

I can't think of anyone that has been great on the Giants in years besides Barry... ok maybe Kent... however I hated that chump.  Outside of that, they have always been a random collection of veterans that somehow win some games.

Maybe Soto will be that guy.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Mark Grace was the last Cubs-rasied position player to make the All-Star team (as a Cub, that is).

That is amazing. How long ago was that, maybe 1996. I don't see anyone coming up the system anytime soon becoming an all star. Who knows maybe Soto will. The catcher's position is a crap shoot.

Are you kidding me? That is horrible. Actually wait I know you're not kidding. That is seriously sick.
